Mold removal in The Avenues usually means working in an older house with care: a stone or brick cellar that stays damp, plaster that hides a slow leak, or a low attic in a story-and-a-half bungalow. We read the house first, open as little as possible and keep original materials where they can be saved.
Avenues homes
More than a century of houses on the hill
The Avenues Historic District records Salt Lake City homes from the late 1860s onward and includes more than one hundred architect-designed houses, from Queen Anne to Prairie style. The neighborhood was laid out in the early 1850s on steep slopes above downtown.
Most of the two-and-a-half-story Victorian homes sit below Fourth Avenue, and above Seventh Avenue most homes are story-and-a-half bungalows. The older houses often have unlined cellars and plaster walls, while the bungalows have low attic spaces behind knee walls where warm air meets a cold roof in winter.
